SPARRING WITH SHADOWS
An antique gilt reeded moulding for an original animal painting
This is a very recent project I undertook for artist Jon Pointer.
The artist wanted a wide, heavily reeded moulding in an antique gilt finish to compliment his "Sparring with Shadows" painting.
The moulding was constructed from three separate frames and three separate planted on mouldings.
It was then oil gilded and distressed.
"To find a framer who is also artistic is, surprisingly, a rare thing.
With the glut of commercial high street framers selling standard mouldings, the fact that specialised businesses like The Art Works still exist is a real boon.
Fay's framing deals with the old-fashioned principals of bespoke finishing, quality wood mouldings, traditional hand gilding, and a thorough and open-minded approach to the framing of different works of art.
The resultant frames are worthy of the old masters and set off the works thay contain to perfection.
I have recommended the Art Works to a number of artist friends and have no hesitation in continuing to do so, she is a master craftsman."
